In this lesson, we will go over some of the vocabulary, expressions, and questions that you might hear in class.

We're going to start with the teachers:
Take attendance:
To check who is present and who is not present at a place and to mark this information on a list of names.

Roll call:
The reading of a list of names to a group of people to check who is there.
Present:
Present:
Now; at this point in time.
Absent:
Not at school maybe because you are sick or decide not to go.
Late:
Arriving after the arranged time to a meeting or event. / He or she is not in the class.
An excused absent:
Means that you have a note from your parents, from your doctor, from your boss, or the teacher just knows that you're not coming today and it's okay; it's excused.
"Raise your hand":
Usually signifies the person is raising their hand for a request, question, ect.

"Take out your notebooks/pens/earphones.":
Means get them ready, we are going to use them.
"Take your seats.":
Means sit down, sit.
"Take out your book. Turn to page ... .":
Means open your book, page ..., let's start reading, working, etc.
"Work in pairs.":
Means get into a few people together; three, four, five.
"Work in groups":
Means get into a few people together; three, four, five.
"Please pay attention to ....."
Means be very focused, listen carefully, be aware.
For students:
If you didn't hear something,
You can say:
- I didn't catch the (last part/ part about ...)
- Could you repeat that please?
- I didn't hear/catch what you said after ....
- Can you please speak more slowly
If you are learning something in English and you're not familiar with what teacher says (it's something new or you didn't really know what it is)
You can say:
- How to spell that?
- What does .... mean?
- How do you say .... in (your language)?
- What is .... in (your language)?
If you need a bit more information and you want the teacher to explain a little bit,
You can say:
- Can you use this word in a sentence?
- Can you give me/us an example of this?
